CITYWIDE — For anyone curious about how the city hopes to continue making biking a comfortable and convenient mode of transportation in Santa Monica, the city’s draft Bike Action Plan is now available for public review.
The Bike Action Plan is an effort to help the city meet the transportation goals established in its Land Use and Circulation Element, which includes a greater reliance on walking, biking and public transportation in an effort to decrease traffic and pollution.
The plan identifies ways the city might get more people out of cars and onto bikes and proposes education for motorists, as well as cyclists, about how all forms of transportation can safely use the roads.
The plan also suggests a host of bicycle related improvements, including new bike paths, better bike lanes, and more bike racks and bike centers throughout the city.
Copies of the plan are available at the City Hall Planning counter and at all city libraries for review and check-out. It can also be found online at www.bikesantamonica.org.
The city encourages residents to read the plan, and any comments submitted to shapethefuture2025@smgov.net by the first week of September will be read by the Planning Commission when they consider adoption of the plan this October.
