A major on-ramp to the Santa Monica Freeway will be closed through Sunday while crews replace the pavement at the intersection of Fourth Street and Olympic Drive, city officials said.
“The city will work very hard to minimize the disruption that this project may cause,” officials said in a statement. “Nevertheless, some traffic delays are anticipated.”
Traffic safety officers will be dispatched at various locations to keep the traffic moving. Traffic signal timing will be modified to facilitate the movement of traffic on Colorado Boulevard, Fourth Street, Pico Boulevard and other streets adjacent to the project area.
After the work has been completed, the heavily trafficked intersection will look and function better and require less maintenance, officials said.
The closure is expected to have the following key impacts:
• Fourth Street between Colorado Avenue and Pico Boulevard will be closed to through traffic. Civic Parking Structure access will be maintained from Pico.
• The on ramp at Fourth and Olympic will be closed.
• The off ramp at Fourth will be temporally changed to two right turn lanes only. City Hall traffic exiting the I-10 Freeway at the Fourth Street off ramp may either turn right at Fifth Street or Fourth and make a left on Colorado.
• City Hall traffic will be able to access the I-10 Freeway eastbound at the Lincoln Boulevard on ramp.
• Traffic access to the Double Tree Hotel and adjacent buildings will be maintained from Pico.
If parking at the Civic Auditorium parking lot, use the Main Street entrance. Traffic flow will be restored to normal on Monday, April 20, and final striping will follow.
