Monday, Jan. 23, at 6:05 p.m.,
Santa Monica police officers responded to the corner of Ocean and Bicknell avenues regarding a report of an attempted robbery. When officers arrived, they located the alleged victim and several witnesses who all pointed to a suspect who was approximately 100 yards west of them on the 1900 block of Ocean Front Walk. They told officers that the suspect approached them and demanded money. When told that they did not have any change, the suspect allegedly produced a 4-inch metal screw and tried to stab the victim in the eye and torso. A struggle ensued and the victim and witnesses were able to get away and call police. Officers approached the suspect and ordered him to put his hands where they could see them. The man allegedly refused to cooperate with officers. Not knowing what was in his hands, officers used a Taser, which had very little effect, police said. Officers then took the suspect to the ground and after a brief struggle were able to take him into custody. The suspect was placed under arrest and transported to the Santa Monica Jail where he was booked for attempted robbery, assault with a deadly weapon and resisting arrest. He was identified as Clarence Ray Young, 61, a transient. His bail was set at $50,000.
Sunday, Jan. 22, at 2:40 p.m.,
Officers responded to a radio call of an intoxicated man running through traffic on the 2400 block of Lincoln Boulevard. When officers arrived, they located the man at the corner of Lincoln Boulevard and Pearl Street. Officers immediately determined that the man was too drunk to take care of himself and attempted to handcuff him. That’s when the suspect clenched his fist and pulled away from the officers, who ordered the suspect to stop resisting several times, police said. The suspect failed to comply and continued his aggressiveness toward officers, while also yelling that he was going to “kill them,” police said. Officers used a Taser and the suspect was taken into custody without further incident. The suspect was taken to a local hospital to be examined for minor injuries. Once he was cleared, he was transported to jail and booked for resisting arrest and public intoxication. He was identified as Larry Scott Bell, 50, a transient. His bail was set at $10,000.
Friday, Jan. 20, at 8:53 a.m.,
Officers responded to the 3300 block of Pico Boulevard — US Bank — regarding a report of vandalism. When officers arrived, they spoke with an employee at the bank who said that she and other employees arrived for work and noticed one of the ATMs had been vandalized. The screen for the machine was shattered, according to police. The employees said while examining the machine they noticed a citation on the ground that was issued to a resident for drinking alcohol in public. Officers reviewed surveillance photos from the ATM and determined that the suspect depicted was the same man issued the citation. Officers went to the man’s address, but he was not there. About two hours later, while responding to an unrelated call on the Third Street Promenade, officers saw the vandalism suspect walking northbound on the 1300 block of Third Street and took him into custody. He was eventually booked for felony vandalism. He was identified as Scott Christofferson, 59, of Santa Monica. His bail was set at $20,000.
Friday, Jan. 20, at 1:58 a.m.,
Officers responded to the 1700 block of Ocean Avenue regarding several people being loud while standing in an alley. When officers arrived, they found a woman sitting on a stair case crying profusely. She told officers that her boyfriend had just walked away and then she began to ramble incoherently, police said. Officers determined the woman was exhibiting signs and symptoms of being under the influence of a controlled substance. The woman allegedly admitted to drinking alcohol and taking LSD, a powerful hallucinogenic. Officers placed the woman under arrest for being under the influence of a controlled substance and public intoxication. She was identified as Terrah Lee Trayer, 20, a transient. Her bail was set at $2,500.
Friday, Jan. 20, at 6:45 a.m.,
Officers accompanied Los Angeles County probation officers as they conducted a compliance check at the home of a Santa Monica gang member, who was living in the 2600 block of Cullen Street in Los Angeles. Upon contacting the man at his home, officers determined that he was displaying signs of being under the influence of a controlled substance. He was placed under arrest for being under the influence and a probation violation. He was identified as Johnny Gonzalez Jimenez, 22, of Los Angeles. His bail was set at $10,000.
Thursday, Jan. 19, at 9:42 p.m.,
Officers responded to the 500 block of Wilshire Boulevard — Whole Foods — regarding a suspected shoplifter in custody. When officers arrived, they made contact with a security guard at the grocery store who said that the suspect entered the store and over the course of an hour he watched as the suspect concealed several items inside two bags she was carrying, as well as a bottle of wine that she allegedly hid inside her sweatshirt. When the suspect noticed she was being watched by security she allegedly ran out the north doors and onto Wilshire Boulevard. The security guard followed her and detained her without incident. Store management wanted to prosecute so officers placed the suspect under arrest for burglary since she had no means to pay for the stolen items, police said. The suspect was identified as Kiera Anjelina Stonehart, 32, of Hawaii. Her bail was set at $20,000.
