On January 15
Dispatch received a call from a Santa Monica resident reporting two males opening mail near the USPS blue mailbox on Ocean and Marguerita. The caller stated the suspects were last seen entering a black sedan, going through mail and tossing paper out of the car window. Upon arrival, officers noticed mail scattered across the area in question. A search of the area resulted in officers stopping a dark colored BMW with two occupants making a U-turn near San Vicente. During the stop and search of the vehicles, officer uncovered multiple rolls of packing and duct tape fashioned to assist with stealing mail from mailboxes in addition to checks and other mail containing personal identification information for various people. The two vehicle occupants, Jossik Munguia Romero and Josue Sauzo Martinez were arrested for 12500(A) CVC – Driving without a license, 475(C) PC – Possessing a completed check with intent to defraud, 530.5(C)(1) PC - Theft: Possession of ID of another with intent to defraud and 466 PC – Possession of burglary tools.
