PUBLIC SAFETY FACILITY — Police believe that the car that rammed into and killed a Santa Monica woman celebrating her 30th birthday was a black 2009 or 2010 Toyota Corolla S.
Using witness accounts and evidence left at the scene of the fatal hit-and-run, officers were able to determine the make and model of the car, police said Tuesday.
Police added that the Toyota should have damage to the left front grill, hood and driver-side headlight or fog lamp assembly. Investigators are asking for the public's help in locating the vehicle and the driver.
On July 16, around 12:16 a.m., police responded to the corner of 21st Street and Wilshire Boulevard regarding a report of a hit-and-run traffic collision involving a pedestrian.
When officers arrived they found Claire Rose, 30, unresponsive. She was transported to a local hospital, where she died as a result of her injuries.
Police believe the driver of the suspect vehicle was traveling west on Wilshire Boulevard, struck Rose and then continued on until turning right on 15th Street and then east on California Avenue. Witnesses lost sight of the vehicle after that.
A vigil was held for Rose the following day at the corner of the collision. Rose, who was originally from Utah, was remembered as a good friend with lots of energy and an uplifting smile. She had been celebrating her birthday with her boyfriend of six years shortly before the collision.
