DOWNTOWN — A 27-year-old Los Angeles man pleaded no contest Friday to first-degree burglary in connection with a May high-speed chase that ended when he abandoned the stolen Range Rover he was driving and jumped off the Santa Monica Pier.
Gerjuan Deshon Harmon was immediately sentenced by Airport Superior Court Judge Mark Windham to two years in state prison, said Deputy District Attorney Emily Baker. Harmon pleaded no contest to one count of burglarizing a UCLA dorm room on May 1. The burglary occurred before Harmon led police on a car chase around West Los Angeles beginning about 11:30 p.m.
The pursuit wound through Beverly Hills, Inglewood and Santa Monica after police received a call about a man driving drunk in West Los Angeles. Authorities said the black 2010 Range Rover was reported stolen on April 19.
The pursuit ended when Harmon abandoned the vehicle at the Santa Monica Pier, jumped to the beach and ran into the ocean. He was arrested after wading back to the beach.
In exchange for his plea, a second count of first-degree burglary and one count each of car theft and felony evading police were dismissed.
