Tuesday, Feb. 22, at 5:30 p.m.,
Santa Monica police officers responded to the 2200 block of Lincoln Boulevard — Bill’s Liquor — regarding a report of an armed robbery. When officers arrived, they made contact with the victim who told them that he was in line to buy some stuff when he saw the suspect go to the refrigerator and remove a case of beer. The suspect then allegedly walked out of the store without paying. The victim said he chased the suspect and caught up to him in the 700 block of Pacific Avenue. He yelled at the suspect, telling him to stop. The suspect turned and threw the case of beer at the victim, striking him in the chest, police said. The suspect continued running. Armed with a description of the suspect, officers were able to find him quickly. Police said he was walking down the sidewalk drinking one of the beers. He had another beer from the case in his pocket. Police placed the suspect under arrest for assault with a deadly weapon and burglary. He was identified as Frank Sambrano, 21, a transient. His bail was set at $30,000.
Thursday, Feb. 24, at 5 a.m.,
Officers were driving by a business located on the 1300 block of Olympic Boulevard, conducting a periodic check for trespassers, when an employee of the business called out to officers. He told them that someone was sleeping in a doorway and he wanted them removed. Officers made contact with the alleged trespasser, who told them he had permission to sleep there from the business owner. Officers knew this not to be true and placed him under arrest for trespassing. He was identified as Eddie Reeves, 60, a transient. His bail was set at $1,000.
Thursday, Feb. 24, at 9:27 p.m.,
Officers were on routine patrol in the 1800 block of Seventh Court when they saw a man urinating near the rear of the Shell gas station. Officers yelled for the suspect to stop and he took off running. Officers lost sight of the suspect for a minute or two. As officers were checking a nearby alley, they saw the suspect behind the wheel of a car that turned onto Lincoln Boulevard. When the suspect saw the officer, he made a U-turn onto Pico Boulevard. Officers followed and pulled the suspect over. While talking with the driver, officers felt he was under the influence of alcohol. Officers had the driver perform a series of balance and coordination tests. At that time officers determined he was intoxicated and placed him under arrest for driving while impaired. The driver was identified as Phillip Fraser, 29, of Las Vegas. His bail was set at $25,000.
Friday, Feb. 25, at 7:46 p.m.,
Officers responded to the 900 block of Olympic Boulevard regarding an assault with a deadly weapon. When officers arrived, a witness told them that the victim recently returned with food to a garage where a group of people were staying to get out of the rain. The suspect allegedly put the witness in some kind of choke hold or sleeper hold and the victim rushed to his defense. The suspect swung his fist and struck the victim in the face, police said. He continued to beat the victim, the witness telling police he had something like a lock in his hand. The witness flagged down a passing motorist, who called 911. The suspect fled, but was apprehended later in the day at the same location. The victim was transported to a local hospital with lacerations to his face and neck. The suspect, who was booked for assault with a deadly weapon, was identified as Terrence Semien, 37, a transient. His bail was set at $30,000.
Saturday, Feb. 26, at 12:22 a.m.,
Officers responded to the 600 block of Wilshire Boulevard — 7-11— regarding people loitering and harassing customers. When officers arrived, they saw two men and one woman hanging around the entrance of the convenience store. Officers asked them to leave, and the two men obliged. The woman did not. Officers said she sat down underneath the “No Loitering” sign and said she wanted to go to jail. As officers were talking with her, a customer walked by smoking a cigarette. The woman allegedly jumped up and asked the customer for a cigarette. Police said she grabbed the customer’s arm and was aggressively panhandling. Officers tried to detain the woman, but she pushed one of them away with force. Officers placed her under arrest for battery of a police officer, obstruction of justice and a violation of the municipal code. She was identified as Shalla Wheatley, 35, a transient. Her bail was set at $20,000.
Sunday, Feb. 27, at 12:16 p.m.,
Officers responded to the 200 block of Broadway — Nordstrom — regarding a shoplifter in custody. When officers arrived, they spoke with store security who said the suspect came in, took a pair of shoes and walked out without paying. Security confronted the suspect and brought her back into the store and held her until police arrived. The suspect was placed under arrest for theft, petty theft with a prior and a probation violation. She was identified as Marilyn Slater, 63, of Los Angeles. Her bail was set at $20,000.
