The Santa Monica Police Department has arrested a street vendor after a fight ended with a man being cut on the neck with an umbrella.
According to SMPD, officers were called to the 1600 block of the beach at about 4:20 p.m. on Sunday for an assault with a deadly weapon. Initial reports described a fight between two men that involved a knife.
When officers arrived they found both men and determined they were both vendors of beach items and toys.
One vendor accused the other of intruding on his perceived territory and the verbal dispute became physical with the aggressor attempting to punch the other vendor several times. The fight escalated and while no knife was used, the second vendor used his umbrella to strike and cut the attacker.
Oscar Hernandez, from Los Angeles, was booked for assault with a deadly weapon for cutting the other man’s neck.
