Multiple venues in Santa Monica were turned into free concert spaces this past Friday, celebrating the annual Make Music Day tradition in Los Angeles as well as the June 21 Summer Solstice.
Called “a free celebration of music and its power to bring communities together,” Make Music Day was launched in France in 1982 and has now expanded to more than 1,200 cities worldwide, including starting in Los Angeles in 2012.
Performances were held at Beach Park 1, Colorado Center Park and Palisades Park; with the Colorado Center Park event becoming a community hangout held by the Mid City Neighbors neighborhood association.
Along with live music from Guillermo Marigliano Trio Band, Tom Nolan and The Ragtag Band, The Squeakie Toys and Santa Monica Music Centers’ Adult Rock Band Program; the Colorado event included coffee provided by Fig & Bean Bistro as well as food from Vito’s Pizza.
