Santa Monica and Venice were taken over by the unique wonders of Indian culture on Sunday, as the 48th annual Los Angeles Festival of Chariots brought the 35-foot-high constructions to the area. Also known as Ratha Yatra, the oldest street festival in the world’s Los Angeles spinoff featured the chariots being carried through the area before landing at Venice Beach’s Windward Plaza, with the chariots symbolizing messages of spirituality and peace. At the plaza, the chariots were on display for locals, as well as a host of other exhibits such as a "free feast" booth, a cultural performances stage and a gift shop. Those eager to eat during the day were given plenty of options, with food stalls set up to serve vegetarian cuisine and fruits such as watermelon and coconuts. (Photos by Thomas Leffler)
