Another health screener at Los Angeles International Airport is one of two new confirmed coronavirus cases in Los Angeles County, Public Health Director Barbara Ferrer announced Friday.
The new cases bring the county’s total to 13, including one traveler from Wuhan, China, who has already recovered, she said.
Ferrer said the newly confirmed screener case is a person who worked at the same LAX quarantine station at the same time as a screener whose diagnosis was announced Wednesday.
They are likely to have had the same exposure, but the federal Centers for Disease Control has been asked to do the investigation because the quarantine station is under U.S. Customs and Border Protection jurisdiction, Ferrer said.
The second new case is person was in a group that traveled to northern Italy, she said. Eight members of that group have now tested positive and are in isolation.
“With these new cases we still do not have any known public exposure but we have identified a list of close contacts — families, friends, health care workers — that are all being interviewed and as appropriate they will be subject for quarantine for 14 days from their last exposure to a confirmed case,” Ferrer said.
