Disaster Assistance Centers Continue to be Open to Assist Residents in Recover and Rebuilding
The City of Malibu has reopened City Hall for the public to access services for the first time since citywide mandatory evacuations on November 9 during the devastating Woolsey Fire.
“My heart goes out to those who have lost their beloved homes. Everyone in Malibu, including me, has friends whose homes were destroyed during this natural catastrophe, which has impacted every person in Malibu,” said Mayor Rick Mullen. “The City will do everything possible to assist Malibu community members in recovering and rebuilding. We will get through this together.”
City staff has been working in an offsite Emergency Operations Center provided as mutual aid from the City of Santa Monica in its Police and Fire headquarters building. Additionally, staff has been performing work in the field within the City.
All City departments are staffed and working. A dedicated Woolsey Fire Rebuild Counter has been opened on the first floor of City Hall. The Fire Rebuild Counter will be open during regular City Hall hours. City Hall is located at 23825 Civic Center Way, Malibu CA 90265.
The Planning and Building Safety Public Counter is open today from 1:30 PM to 5:30 PM. After today, Public Counter hours will be 7:30 AM to 12:30 PM Monday through Friday, and in the afternoon by appointment. This week, additional back-up planners will be available as needed after 12:30 PM.
The Senior Center is open, but senior and recreation programs have not yet resumed. Trancas and Bluffs parks and the Malibu Community Swimming Pool remain temporarily closed. Las Flores Creek Park and Legacy Park are open. The City will announce when programs will resume and when facilities will re-open.
Los Angeles County, in partnership with the US Department of Homeland Security, Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), and California Governor’s Office of Emergency Services (CalOES), has opened a Disaster Assistance Center (DAC) in Malibu and another in Agoura Hills.
The Malibu DAC is located in the former Malibu Courthouse (23555 Civic Center Way), and provides a central location where people impacted by the fire can directly access government and non-profit services to help recover and rebuild, including: registering for FEMA assistance, registering for Small Business Administration (SBA) assistance, debris removal and rebuilding permitting information, housing assistance, and referrals for further help. The DAC is open Monday through Thursday, 1:00 PM to 8:00 PM, Friday and Saturday, 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM, and is closed on Sundays and holidays.
The Malibu Library (23519 West Civic Center Way) is also assisting the DAC by providing laptops, public PCs, WiFi, and space in the community meeting room.
An additional DAC is open in Agoura Hills at the Hilton Foundation Building, 30440 Agoura Road, Agoura CA 91301.
