There’s a new restaurant on the block in Abbot Kinney, going by the name of Post Script. This brightly colored parking lot pop up, which was launched last month by Paul Pruitt and Dave and Patti Reiss, serves wood-fired meats alongside fresh greens doused in creative spices and sauces.
The 100 seat tent is licensed to serve guests through the end of the year, and gives those upset by the temporary closure of nearby restaurant Yours Truly, a new opportunity to savor Chef Vartan Abgaryan’s flavorful fare. Post Script is open at 1525 Abbot Kinney Blvd from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Wednesday, Thursday, and Sunday, and until 10 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.
“We saw this outdoor restaurant (Post Script) as a continuation of the work we had done across the street at Yours Truly. And with Yours Truly being a salutation in a letter, P.S. (Post Script) was a continuation of our love letter to Venice,” said Paul Pruitt, partner at Post Script and Yours Truly.
So far customer favorites have included pork ribs with pomegranate harissa and walnut dukkah, grilled portabella steak with salsa macha and onion rings, and broccolini ‘caesar’ with parmesan and pickled fresno. To end their meal on a sweet note customers can dig into a strawberry pretzel pie, banana split or order build your own s’mores.
Chef Vartan Abgaryan is a native Angelo and was classically trained at Le Cordon Bleu. His dishes celebrate his combined American-Armenian heritage and mix the freshest ingredients with unexpected spices from the Middle East, Asia, and Europe.
As Yours Truly has no outdoor seating, the Post Script team have used their creative juices to adapt to COVID restrictions, including figuring out how to run a restaurant without a kitchen. At Post Script, Chef Abgaryan cooks the meat over an open flame and other dishes are prepared in a food truck parked out back. Beer and wine is brought over from Yours Truly while customers dine in the parking lot of the Brig Bar, which is owned by Dave Reiss.
“The idea was born from the pandemic and the need to pivot, which was encouraged by LA City’s Al Fresco program,” said Pruitt. “We wanted a menu that celebrated outdoor dining. While we had some unique challenges in serving chef-quality food outside, we decided to lean into our options (use of an outdoor grill and food truck) to put together a menu that we’re super proud of.”
At a time when the restaurant industry is flailing, the creative use of outdoor spaces has propelled the partners’ businesses. Chef Abgaryan alongside partners Dave and Patti Reiss used a large patio and parking lot to launch a Mexican Cantina called Nueva in August. The Post Script team is also looking for a way to reopen Yours Truly soon.
