Kaleidoscope’s 5th season continues with a pair of concerts on Saturday January 19 at 7 p.m. at the Westerbeck Recital Hall at Pasadena City College, and Sunday January 20 at 2 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church of Santa Monica. Both performances are donation-based and open seating.
The newest work on this program is the world premiere of Hexacorallia (2019) by Gabriella Smith, a thirty minute work for string orchestra commissioned by Kaleidoscope with funding from New Music USA.
The entire program is performed conductorless and features some of the leading musicians in the US.
Kaleidoscope’s 5th season features orchestral and chamber music by 21 female and 17 male composers. Most pieces being premiered came from our annual call for scores, which last year received almost 2200 applications from composers in 76 countries.
With a goal of reaching new and more diverse audiences for classical music, almost all of Kaleidoscope’s public performances this season are donation-based admission and open seating (with the exception of ticketed performances on February 23 and 24, and March 30). Additionally, each season Kaleidoscope performs over 60 free performances at schools, hospitals, homeless shelters, and other artistically underserved parts of our community.
