The Santa Monica Education Foundation is ending 2018 with an opportunity to secure $50,000 to fund programs in Santa Monica schools from an anonymous donor. The donor will match all donations to the Ed Foundation dollar for dollar, up to $50,000, between December 10 and 31, 2018.
“We are grateful to this extremely generous family for offering such an incredible opportunity for our school community,” said Linda Greenberg, Executive Director of the Ed Foundation. “The dollars raised by this match will directly fund programs in Santa Monica classrooms next year. Donations will allow students to expand their creativity in the arts, innovate in STEM classes, and experience the well-rounded education we all want for our students.”
Like all contributions to the Ed Foundation, donations made during the match will fund personnel, programs and professional development at Santa Monica public schools next year. Funding supports arts education, instructional aides, STEM, student wellness programs and more.
These programs include Project Lead the Way, a four-year engineering course at Santa Monica High School. 4th year Project Lead the Way students recently took 1st place out of 50 teams at the 2018 Jet Propulsion Laboratory Invention Challenge Los Angeles Regional Competition and are now advancing to the competition finals.
The funds raised also support 5th grade ballroom dance classes. In 10 weeks of ballroom dance training, students learn to waltz, tango and more, while gaining poise, self-esteem, social skills and respect for their fellow dancers. The program culminates with a dance showcase for parents at each school. Project Lead the Way and ballroom dance are just two of the many programs across Santa Monica funded through donation to the Ed Foundation.
