Santa Monica's second Trader Joe's will open at 2300 Wilshire Blvd. Saturday. The grocery store will be open daily from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. and offer validated, underground parking on 23rd Street.
It will occupy the ground floor of a recently completed three-story building that contains 30 apartments and space for at least one other business.
The first Trader Joe's in Santa Monica is located at Pico Boulevard and 32nd Street. The city almost got another location at Wilshire Boulevard and 12th Street in 2001, but the Planning Commission denied the project, citing a lack of parking.
The new store will open across the street from a Whole Foods and a few blocks away from upscale grocer Erewhon. It will feature murals that pay tribute to local landmarks, including the Big Wave, Third Street Promenade, local schools and more, a spokesperson said.
