Mourners are gathering to remember a Southern California firefighter who was shot to death while responding to an explosion and fire.
The memorial service for Long Beach fire Capt. Dave Rosa will be held Tuesday at the Long Beach Convention Center.
Rosa was fatally shot June 25 as firefighters dealt with the aftermath of an early morning blast at a senior living tower. Another firefighter and a civilian were wounded.
The 45-year-old Rosa worked for the Long Beach Fire Department for 17 years. He is survived by a wife and two children.
A 77-year-old resident of the building was arrested and charged with murder, attempted murder, arson and explosive counts. Prosecutors allege the man was feuding with a neighbor and set off the explosion in an attempt to kill her.
