Incident of the day
Atapproximately 11:29 a.m. Jan. 7, officers respond to the area of 20th Street and Pico Boulevard regarding a female who was yelling at customers at a nearby business and was damaging property.
The responding officers spoke with the manager of the business and found out that the female suspect, later identified as Melinda Middlebrook, threw a chair to the floor of the restaurant, breaking it, and yelled obscenities at the manager.
Middlebrook exited the building and then sat on the 20th Street side near a wall, drinking a can of beer. The officers located her with the opened container of alcohol and detained Middlebrook as she was positively identified by the manager.
Upon her arrest for vandalism, officers searched Middlebrook and discovered a pipe used to smoke cocaine inside her bra. Middlebrook, 27, transient, was charged with vandalism and possession of drug paraphernalia. Her bail was set at $500.
