PCH The Pacific Coast Highway was temporarily closed hours on Sunday, July 6 due to a suicidal man on the Santa Monica Bluffs.
The Santa Monica Police Department issued an alert to residents at about 2 p.m. stating that the northbound and southbound lands of the PCH were shut due to police activity. Witnesses quickly began posting to social media sites reporting a man on the bluffs was threatening to jump.
Traffic quickly backed up for miles and city streets in the downtown area became congested due to freeway detours.
Officers responded to the scene and were able to convince the suspect to voluntarily come down from the bluffs. The freeway was reopened at about 3:30 p.m.
