Editor:
I found it ironic that your Oct. 30 issue had an article about the scariness of tax bills coming out this week ("It's scary property tax season again," The Taxman), and also an article on firefighters making over $200k ("42 fire department members made more than $200K last year," page 1) without having a single quote or viewpoint about how outrageous it is for Santa Monica fire fighters to be in the top 3 percent of U.S. earners. Or any data on average hours worked per week that these high income earners use to justify their pay. Or data comparing to state or national averages. Not exactly hard hitting, or even balanced, journalism.
The city deserves a conversation about making our firefighters some of the wealthiest people in the country.
