The Santa Monica Police Department will be offering its Spanish-language Citizen Police Academy, Academia Comunitaria Policial, beginning in late January.
Classes are taught by police officers, police executives and highly specialized non-sworn employees of the SMPD. They will be held at the Public Safety Facility located at 333 Olympic Dr.
The courses include demonstrations, discussions, lectures and personal participation in mock exercises. Participants will learn about patrol procedures, gang and narcotic investigations, Internal Affairs, S.W.A.T., traffic safety and other topics.
Enrollment is open to anyone who lives, works or goes to school in Santa Monica and is at least 18 years of age. Classes are held on Tuesday evenings from 6 p.m. — 9 p.m.
