Main Street seems to be in a terrible state. Lula Cocina Mexicana appears to be closing. A clothing store named Clever near Ashland Avenue and Main Street is closing. Homeworks is closing. Patagonia is moving. Many clothing stores closed earlier this year, only to be replaced by furniture stores that rarely have any customers.
I think it's time the city asked itself, what can we do to support this elegant and historic street? Are meter maids swarming around like vultures day and night helping or hurting business? What about allowing only two hours for parking, until visitors have to pay the meter again?
Abbot Kinney is doing great, and I can't help but notice that street has free parking, so do the surrounding streets. When will the city of Santa Monica stop sabotaging its own city? Or is the plan to destroy Main Street and hand it over to corporate condo and hotel developers?
