SAMOHI — Santa Monica High School’s girls’ volleyball team hosts Rio Hondo Prep in the first round of the CIF-Southern Section Division 3-AA playoffs today at 7 p.m.
Samohi finished the regular season as Ocean League champs and enter the playoffs as the No. 3 seed. The Vikings’ overall record is 18-6 and a perfect 8-0 in league play.
Chadwick is the division’s No. 1 seed with Pasadena Poly at No. 2.
The boys’ team, also led by Head Coach Liane Sato, won the CIF-SS title last spring.
Pacifica Christian v-ball at home
Pacifica Christian’s girls’ volleyball opens the CIF-SS Division 4-A playoffs tonight against St. Matthias at 7 p.m. at Crossroads.
The Seawolves finished the regular season 22-6 overall and 7-1 in the Heritage League. They tied Milken for the league title.
Pacifica Christian is the No. 5 seed in the field.
Samohi football keeps climbing
Just days after clinching Samohi’s first Ocean League football title in a decade, the Vikings moved up two spots in the latest CIF-SS Western Division rankings to No. 5, it was announced on Monday.
Samohi’s move up the rankings comes after the Vikings dispatched rival Culver City, 17-14, on Friday to secure the league crown.
Chaminade retained its No. 1 ranking in the poll. With the loss to Samohi, Culver City dropped from No. 8 to No. 10.
The Vikings, 8-1 overall and 4-0 in league, close the regular season on Friday at Hawthorne.
Samohi water polo hits road
Samohi’s boys’ water polo team will begin the CIF-SS Division 3 playoffs on the road at La Canada on Wednesday at 5 p.m.
