Are you a resident of Santa Monica or Malibu and are concerned about the state of public schools? If so, then it’s time to step up and serve.
There are currently two vacancies on the Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District’s Measure BB Advisory Committee, which provides the school board and district staff the public’s view on how best to spend hundreds of millions of dollars generated by bond sales.
The school district is currently involved in one of the largest construction initiatives in the city’s history, planning upgrades to various campuses, including new athletic facilities.
All attempts will be made to include members of the community who will bring different views to the committee, including relevant expertise (e.g., technology implementation and requirements, construction, safety, curriculum/fine arts, environmental concerns, issues regarding cultural relevance; etc.), cultural backgrounds, geographical areas of the district, representatives from both Santa Monica and Malibu, SEIU, Santa Monica College, and the teacher's union.
For more information and to get an application, go to smmusd.org or call (310) 450-8338, ext. 70380.
The committee meets approximately twice a month on the Monday before a school board meeting.
