Saturday, Sept. 24, at 3:26 p.m.,
Santa Monica police officers responded to the 1100 block of Lincoln Boulevard — Reed Park — regarding a report of an assault with a deadly weapon in progress. When officers arrived, they made contact with the alleged victim, who told them that he was walking his dog in the park when the suspect started whistling at his pooch and tried to pet it. The owner asked the man to stop and to not touch his dog. The suspect became angry and wrapped a chain around his fist and proceeded to strike the victim in the chest, police said. The victim called 911 on his cell phone as the suspect started swinging the chain, which had a pad lock affixed to the end of it, toward the victim’s head, police said. Officers detained the suspect without incident and recovered the chain. The suspect was identified by the victim and placed under arrest for assault with a deadly weapon, possession of an unlawful weapon, a probation violation and two outstanding warrants. He was identified as Kenneth McCray, 33, of Santa Monica. His bail was set at $32,250.
Tuesday, Sept. 20, at 5:17 p.m.,
Officers responded to the 300 block of Colorado Avenue — Bloomingdale’s — regarding a report of store security fighting outside of the mall with a suspected shoplifter. When officers arrived, they made contact with store security, who had the suspect handcuffed. Security told officers the suspect was recently arrested in Beverly Hills for stealing sunglasses from a Bloomingdale’s there. Security recognized him once he walked into the Santa Monica Place location and followed him as he allegedly removed a pair of Ray-Bans valued at $195. He ripped off the price tag and walked out of the store without paying for the glasses, police said. Security confronted him outside of the store, at which time the suspect allegedly pushed one of the security guards to the ground and tried to run. He was detained by another guard. After interviewing security, officers placed the suspect under arrest for robbery. He was identified as Mylan Sharava, 36, of Van Nuys, Calif. His bail was set at $50,000.
Thursday, Sept. 22, at 9:55 a.m.,
Officers were on routine patrol on the 600 block of Wilshire Boulevard when they were flagged down by someone who told them that there was a man bleeding from the face just outside the 7-Eleven on the corner of Wilshire and Seventh Street. Officers made contact with the injured man, who told officers that he had just been assaulted and his beach cruiser was stolen. Officers checked the area and located a suspect and the cruiser. The victim identified the bike as his and the suspect was placed under arrest for robbery and a parole violation. The victim declined medical assistance. The suspect was identified as Eric Daniel Rodriguez, 24, of Los Angeles. No bail was set.
Thursday, Sept. 22, at 9:20 a.m.,
Officers responded to the area of Ocean Avenue and Santa Monica Boulevard regarding a report of a robbery that just occurred. When officers arrived, they made contact with the alleged victim, who said that he was sitting in his wheelchair next to a bus stop when a woman walked up and pushed him out of his chair. He said the suspect then walked away with his wheelchair, bags and cane. The suspect was located on the 1500 block of Ocean Avenue and, after being identified by the victim, was placed under arrest and booked for robbery. She was identified as Sommer McLane, 37, a transient. Her bail was set at $50,000.
Friday, Sept. 23, at 1:53 a.m.,
Officers responded to the 2300 block of Santa Monica Boulevard — Santa Monica Bistro — regarding a report of a burglary that occurred. When officers arrived, they found a window had been smashed and a door was ajar. Officers viewed surveillance footage and determined that a man smashed the window and entered the business. Officers located the suspect at the corner of Santa Monica Boulevard and 12th Street. He allegedly admitted to breaking the window. He was placed under arrest and booked for burglary. He was identified as Lutrell Davis, 63, a transient. His bail was set at $20,000.
Saturday, Sept. 24, at 7:03 p.m.,
Officers responded to the 2300 block of Ocean Park Boulevard — Lee’s Market — regarding a report of unknown trouble at the location. When officers arrived, they made contact with an employee at the market who told them that he saw the suspect take a bottle of champagne and run out the rear door and into the alley. The victim gave chase and caught the suspect in the alley. As he walked the suspect back toward the store, the suspect allegedly started to fight and struck the victim with the champagne bottle. The victim managed to hang onto the suspect until officers arrived. The victim suffered a minor bruise on the arm. The suspect was arrested for robbery and possession of a methamphetamine pipe. The suspect was identified as Desmond Johnson, 21, of Santa Monica. His bail was set at $50,000.
