PUBLIC SAFETY FACILITY — Santa Monica police have released surveillance video of two men they believe brutally beat a man Thursday morning while he was working out on the 3100 block of Santa Monica Boulevard.
The video shows the suspects walking west on Santa Monica Boulevard near Busby’s West bar and restaurant around 2:15 a.m. Their attention seems to be focused on something out of frame, most likely the victim, who police said was clad in workout clothes, sparring gloves and wrist weights.
The suspects, who police believe frequented the area for a few days before the attack, continue walking west, but suddenly turn back and head east toward the victim. About a minute later, the suspects come back into view and are captured running north on Berkeley Street.
“The victim was approached by two suspects who, without provocation, brutally beat the victim about the face and head by unknown means,'' said SMPD Sgt. Richard Lewis.
The victim sustained major injuries to his head, face and neck, Lewis said. He was taken to a hospital where he remains in critical condition.
The first suspect is white, in his late 20s, 6 feet 3 inches tall and weighs 200 to 225 pounds. He was wearing a dark-colored Arizona Diamondbacks baseball cap, a white long sleeve shirt, dark-colored shorts and dark shoes.
The second suspect is white, in his late 20s, 5 feet 7 inches to 5 feet 10 inches tall and weighs about 170 pounds with a muscular build. He was wearing a dark-colored T-shirt, dark-colored pants and dark shoes.
Police urge anyone with information regarding this assault to contact Santa Monica Police Det. Chad Goodwin at (310) 458-8942 or (310) 458-8495.
