DOWNTOWN — Pacifica Christian’s baseball team’s dominance of the Heritage League must have caught the attention of league rivals.
The Seawolves Kevin Hammer was voted co-MVP by the league’s coaches Monday, but the accolades don’t stop there for the No. 10 team in CIF-SS Division 7. Austin Cortina (pitcher, shortstop) and Athen Shelp (outfield) were named to the first team, and Tucie Shelp (infielder, pitcher) and Keenan Pierandozzi-Howes (catcher) were named to the second team, Head Coach Julian Chavez said.
Not to be out done, Chavez was named coach of the year.
“I’m really proud of the guys,” he said. “They earned it.”
The honors come on the eve of the team’s first-round playoff game on Friday. The Seawolves will play the winner of a wild card game played on Tuesday between Coast Union and Trinity Classical Academy. The results of that game were not available at presstime.
