Tuesday, Oct. 26, at 12:08 p.m.,
Officers responded to the area of Fourth Street and Broadway regarding a report of unknown trouble. When officers arrived, they made contact with the alleged victim who said she was leaving Parking Structure 5 when a man approached her car, opened the driver’s side door and ordered her to get out. As she was getting out of the car, she failed to put it in park and the vehicle traveled across the street and struck a parked car on the other side of the road. The victim ran to a nearby business to call police and the suspect fled the location. Officers located the suspect a short distance away. The suspect was arrested for attempted carjacking and a parole violation. He was identified as Joseph Liberty, 35, a transient. He was not eligible for bail.
Thursday, Oct. 28, at 3:20 p.m.,
Officers were on routine patrol in the area of 20th Street and Pico Boulevard when they saw a man walking in front of Burger King who they recognized from earlier contacts. The man had been warned to stay away from the restaurant. Officers arrested the suspect for violating a court order and for a probation violation. He was identified as Tyree Brown, 58, of Los Angeles. His bail was set at $10,000.
Thursday, Oct. 28, at 3:20 p.m.,
Officers responded to the 200 block of Broadway (Nordstrom) regarding a theft suspect in custody. When officers arrived, they made contact with security who said the suspect entered the business and tried to return two shirts valued at $393 without a receipt. Officers were able to identify the suspect as someone who has a history of returning items without receipts and has two documented petty thefts from the company. As the suspect waited for the shirts to be returned, he walked around the store. The suspect walked over to the watch counter and allegedly placed a men’s wrist watch in a bag. The suspect then went to the bathroom and exited a short time later. Security checked inside the bathroom and allegedly found an empty watch box. The suspect left the store without paying for the watch, security said. Security stopped the suspect and called police. Officers placed the suspect under arrest for burglary, parole violation, possession of burglary tools and receiving stolen property. He was identified as William Lee, 52, a transient. He was not eligible for bail.
Thursday, Oct. 28, at 3:30 p.m.,
Officers responded to the 200 block of Broadway regarding a theft suspect in custody. When officers arrived, they were advised by store security that the suspect tried to steal a toiletry bag. Officers placed the suspect under arrest for petty theft with a prior and a parole violation. He was identified as Ronald Tolliver, 60, a transient. He was not eligible for bail.
Friday, Oct. 29, at 12:50 a.m.,
Officers responded to the area of Alley 2 in the 1200 block regarding a possible purse snatching. Further investigation revealed that the purse snatch was unfounded. However, the individual that was detained by police officers was arrested for public intoxication. The suspect was identified as Jose Jimenez, 27, of Los Angeles. His bail was set at $250.
Friday, Oct. 29, at 10:45 p.m.,
Officers monitored a radio broadcast that stated a witness reported a possible drunk driver near 11th Street and San Vicente Boulevard. As officers responded, dispatch said the driver had just pulled his vehicle into a driveway in the 1200 block of Georgina Avenue. When officers arrived they observed a man standing in the street looking at a vehicle that was parked with the engine running. The man advised officers that the driver of that vehicle had followed him all the way home. As officers were talking to the man, they observed symptoms of impairment. The officer asked the man to stay by his car as he went to talk to the driver parked in the street. The witness told officers that the man was weaving all over the road and struck the curb as he drove into his driveway. As officers were talking to the witness, the man started walking to his residence and entered it. Officers observed that as the man walked toward his residence, he was staggering. Officers attempted to contact the man, but he did not answer the door. The subject’s wife, who was outside, was asked to get the subject. She came back with the man’s driver’s license. She allegedly told officers her husband was getting ready for bed. She went back in and the man came to the door. Officers talked with the man and could smell an odor of alcohol emitting from his breath. They also observed that his eyes were very red and watery and his balance was unsteady. Officers had the subject perform a series of balance and coordination tests. Upon completion of the tests, officers arrested the suspect, Courtney Conte, 54, of Santa Monica, for driving while impaired. His bail was set at $5,000.
Sunday, Oct. 31, at 9:25 a.m.,
Officers were patrolling the alley south of the 800 block of Ozone Avenue when they observed two subjects sleeping in the alley. As officers approached to make a consensual contact, officers observed two baggies of marijuana on the bicycle seat that was adjacent to the sleeping subjects. Officers asked the subjects who the marijuana belonged to. One subject, later identified as James Trotter, 29, a transient, stated the drugs were his. Further investigation revealed that the suspect was in possession of a hypodermic needle that was in a glove he was wearing. Officers also found a backpack that contained videos, hypodermic needles, a DVD player and an iPod. A check of the DVDs revealed that they were from a rental store in Venice. The store advised that the DVDs were checked out but not by the suspect. Officers arrested the suspect for possession of marijuana, possession of hypodermic needles, possession of stolen property and a warrant. His bail was set at $1,010.
