SAMOHI — A female Santa Monica High School senior was stabbed in the face by an unidentified attacker as she was walking to campus on Thursday morning, Santa Monica police told the Daily Press.
The victim had parked her car in the 2000 block of Sixth Street and was heading to campus about 9:10 a.m. when she was approached by a Hispanic female who demanded her belongings, said Sgt. Jay Trisler, a police spokesman. When the victim resisted the robbery, she was stabbed in the right cheek, he said.
Officials did not disclose the type of weapon used in the stabbing, and the victim’s condition was unknown at deadline Thursday. Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District officials said that the victim proceeded to school after the attack where she was assisted by school staff and police personnel.
The suspect got away — with the victim’s cell phone and purse — in a blue-green colored van being driven by a Hispanic male, police said. The van was last seen heading northbound on Sixth Street.
Officers had not arrested anyone in connection with the attack by deadline Thursday.
The school district’s release regarding the attack added that a Santa Monica College student was robbed at 14th Street and Michigan Avenue shortly after. It did not indicate if the two crimes were connected. The release by Superintendent Tim Cuneo advised students to travel in groups, be alert to surroundings and don’t fight attempted robberies.
