I know all of you are anxiously awaiting the release of the Daily Press’ endorsements for the upcoming election. Well, you’re going to have to wait just a little longer. We plan to publish our picks for the local, state and federal races beginning Friday, Oct. 22. We will kick things off with the local races and measures and then move on to the sate and federal races the week after. As you know, the ballot is stacked this year and it is more critical than ever to invest the time to digest as much campaign literature, news articles and endorsements as you can find so that you make a sound decision and help California pull itself out of the depths of the recession. That is why we are waiting until the 22nd to drop our picks. We’re giving ourselves added time to do our research and you should, too.
Keeping with that theme, we at the Daily Press would like to thank all of those who attended our candidate’s forum “Squirm Night” on Oct. 4, especially all the candidate’s who showed up. We had a tremendous turnout, filling the MLK Auditorium at the Main Library. We couldn’t have done it without our staff, our dedicated neighborhood sponsors (Friends of Sunset Park, Pico Neighborhood Association, Ocean Park Association, Mid-City Neighbors, Wilshire-Montana and North of Montana Neighborhood Association), library staff and those who attended and asked questions of the candidates.
It feels great to live and work in a community that is educated, involved and appreciates quality journalism. Kudos to you, Santa Monica, for getting involved. Don’t forget to vote Tuesday, Nov. 2. Make sure your voice is heard.
