SMC — Guess Christian Ross likes Santa Monica.
After starring for Santa Monica High School’s football team last season the speedy running back has decided to stay close to home and play for Santa Monica College.
He is expected to split running back duties with Kendall Gordon, who played for Samohi rival Culver City last season.
“I may be getting a few less carries,” Ross said of the platoon at running back. “It will help me with more energy later in games.”
Ross was recruited by a number of big schools including Oregon and the University of San Diego, but qualifying for larger schools was problematic.
“I want to focus on my grades,” Ross said of attending SMC. “I want to try and qualify.”
He doesn’t expect to play at SMC for two years hoping to transfer after his freshman season.
SMC Head Coach Robert Taylor is happy to be landing a workhorse like Ross.
“He was my number one pick,” Taylor said of Ross’ recruitment.
SMC’s first practice of the season takes place Aug. 13 at Corsair Field.
