From inspiring speeches to rousing musical performances, the 2024 Samohi Graduation ceremony was a moment years in the making for 659 young adults. Held at the Memorial Greek Theatre, the 170th graduation exercises began with a processional where seniors walked throughout the theatre space to wave to family and friends.
Once situated on the stage, the 2024 class and Samohi faculty took in speeches from ASB President Maryamawet Wondwossen, Senior Class President Jade Furukawa, Olivia Pirrone, Ava Waterstone, Samohi Principal Marie Cruce, Ryan Behzadi and Sienna Shah.
In between the speeches were a host of impressive performances, including a group rendition of “Rivers and Roads” by The Head and the Heart, Azeliya Woldemariam singing “A Change is Gonna Come” accompanied by Dylan Cheah on guitar and Justin Xu on piano, and a performance of “This Is The Moment” from the musical Jekyll & Hyde by Xu, Carl Egert, Jasper Ford, Luca Lombardo and Milo Perkins.
After a lengthy presentation of diplomas, giving spotlight to each individual of the 659-member class, Marley Cortez and Reign Snowden gave the final musical showcase by singing “Lift Every Voice and Sing.”
The entirety of the class then spilled out from the theatre into the track and field space to greet their families, celebrating years of hard work.
