
SAMOHI — Santa Monica baseball brings a 3-1 record into the Vikings' matchup with Roosevelt as part of the SoCal Invitational.
After a loss to Notre Dame last week, Samohi edged Buena, 1-0, on Friday. The Vikings had an easier time with Birmingham on Saturday, 10-1. Both games were part of the invitational.
The Roosevelt game is scheduled for Tuesday at 3 p.m. at Samohi. Roosevelt enters the game with a 1-2 record. Their most recent contest was a 3-2 loss to San Pedro.
Later in the week, Samohi will host a doubleheader with Santa Monica-based New Roads on Saturday. The first game begins at 10 a.m.
St. Monica girls earn bye in state playoffs
Fresh off winning the CIF-Southern Section Division 4A girls' basketball championship, St. Monica learned Sunday that they would receive a bye in the first round of the state playoffs.
On Saturday, the St. Monica Mariners will host the winner of the Cantwell-Sacred Heart/Lindsey game. First round games take place Wednesday.
The Mariners enter the CIF-State Basketball Championships as the No. 2 seed in the Southern California bracket. Gardena Serra is the No. 1 team in the field.
St. Paul, the team St. Monica defeated to win the division title on Saturday, is the No. 5 seed. They host Exeter in the first round.
The finals of the state playoffs will be held March 23 at Sacramento's Sleep Train Arena.
New Roads, Crossroads battle for bragging rights
Santa Monica-based New Roads and Crossroads will fight it out for citywide bragging rights on Tuesday.
Crossroads hosts the local rivalry game at 3 p.m. at Clover Park.
Crossroads is 3-1 going into the game. New Roads is 0-2.
