Through March 23, Albertsons, Vons and Pavilions (AVP) shoppers will have the opportunity to donate at checkout to support Special Olympics Southern California athletes. Find your local store at SOSC.Org/AVP.
“We are extremely grateful for our partnership with AVP,” said SOSC President and CEO Calvin Lyons. “Over the last 36 years, the AVP campaign has raised over $8.4 million to support our athletes. We appreciate everyone who contributes. Every dollar helps! They are also one of the largest employers of people with intellectual disabilities, including over 25 SOSC athletes.”
Throughout 339 Southern California stores, AVP customers will be given three donation amount options: $1, $3, or $5. They can also select a custom amount by telling the cashier. All donations collected will support SOSC athletes by providing free sports training and programming, such as virtual sports leagues, live virtual workouts, learning materials, equipment, and more. This programming leads to improved health, self-confidence, and independence among athletes with intellectual disabilities and acceptance and inclusion in the community.
“I’ve worked at Vons for 13 years,” said SOSC Athlete Colbert Williams. “I bag groceries. I do carts. I do carryout. I’ve never been late. Whoever helps raise money for Special Olympics, I thank them. I can’t wait to get back to sports.”
