Summertime is always filled with fun, laughter, and contentment. However, that may not be the case for all children. In fact, formillions of children, summer vacation can unfortunately be a time ofstress and anxiety. Many low-income children who rely on school mealsdon't have access to themwhile schools close during summer vacation. This causes them to worry about not getting enough food over thesummer.
Lucky for them, the Federal Summer Meals program supports kidsat risk of hunger; they can receive healthy food when school is out. Families inneed of free summer meals for kids and teens can text 'FOOD' to 877-877or call 1-866-3HUNGRY to find a site that serves free meals near them.
I am proud to be part of the national effort to connect more kids withsummer meals and I encourage everyone to raise awareness about thiscrucial issue.
