Three people were injured after a driver crashed into a building on 12th Street early Sunday morning, officials said.
A driver was speeding east on Pico Boulevard at about 2:45 a.m. Sunday and collided with a building on 12th Street, as well as three parking meters, two trees, a streetlight and a fire hydrant, according to the Santa Monica Fire Department. Firefighters recovered three people from the wrecked car and transported them to a nearby hospital.
SMFD Capt. Eric Himler said one individual was in critical condition and the other two are in stable condition.
Santa Monica Police Department Lieutenant Joseph Cortez said officers on scene cited the driver, Jeremiah Hewitt, 22, of Los Angeles, for misdemeanor driving under the influence, but did not arrest him because he was being treated at the hospital. Cortez said SMPD is continuing to investigate the collision.
