Police say a suspect in a series of Southern California armed robberies was fatally shot when detectives interrupted another heist.
The Long Beach Police Department says detectives were watching a car linked to the robberies late Thursday when a man got out and entered a business.
The department says the detectives followed and gave multiple orders for the man to drop his gun but he failed to comply.
The detectives attempted life-saving measures but firefighters pronounced the man dead. He was not immediately identified.
Another man who was in the car was taken into custody.
The detectives and three people inside the business were unharmed.
The crime series included six robberies this month in Long Beach and others outside the city.
