Crime watch
On April 2 at approximately 8:30 p.m., officers responded to a non-injury traffic collision at Lincoln Boulevard and Bay Street.
Upon arrival, officers spoke with the reporting party, also the victim, who stated that she was sitting at a traffic signal on the corner of Lincoln and Pico boulevards when she was rear-ended by the suspect, later identified as Ricardo Lopez, 56, of Los Angeles.
According to the victim, Lopez hit her vehicle and proceeded to drive around the driver's side when she told him he needed to stop. When the victim and Lopez exited their vehicles, she noticed that he had poor balance, was slurring his speech and appeared to be under the influence.
When officers asked Lopez what occurred, he denied hitting the vehicle and was unsure why the victim had called the police. Officers noticed the strong odor of alcohol, blood-shot, watery eyes and his slurred speech. In looking inside the vehicle, officers found open and unopened cans of beer.
A series of field sobriety tests was performed. Due to the officer's observations and Lopez's performance, he was found to be impaired and unable to safely operate a motor vehicle. He was booked for driving a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol. Bail was set at $15,000.
