THOUSAND OAKS — Authorities say a small plane that departed from Santa Monica Airport has gone down in a Thousand Oaks landfill injuring two people on board.
Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Ian Gregor says the Piper Arrow reportedly had a loss of engine power and crashed into the landfill at about 6:15 p.m. Thursday.
Gregor says two people were aboard the plane, a flight instructor and a private pilot who was receiving training for a commercial license. He says both apparently suffered only minor injuries.
The plane departed from SMO, but it’s not known where it was headed.
The FAA and National Transportation Safety Board are investigating.
