LINCOLN BLVD ¬ó A 54-year-old homeless woman died early Monday morning after being struck by a car while walking in a crosswalk at Ashland Avenue and Lincoln Boulevard, police said.
Officers responded to the scene around 10:30 p.m. Sunday after a receiving a report of a collision involving a female pedestrian.
Police said the driver, a 65-year-old Santa Monica man, was cooperative throughout the investigation and he was determined to not be under the influence of drugs or alcohol. After being interviewed, the driver was released.
The driver was traveling south on Lincoln Boulevard and made a left turn onto Ashland Avenue. The pedestrian, who has yet to be identified pending notification of next of kin, was walking north in the crosswalk on the east side of Lincoln. The driver struck the woman while she was in the crosswalk, police said.
She sustained major injuries and was transported to a local trauma center, where she later succumbed to her injuries.
