The Santa Monica Museum of Flying will be the home of a newly-created California Aviation Hall of Fame.
Officials with the museum, which is expected to open in the spring or summer of 2010 after a $2 million expansion and remodel, made the announcement Thursday.
“We are honored to have the opportunity to present and preserve this important piece of California history … ,” said David Price, chairman of the museum. “The aviation and aerospace industries played a key role in the growth of the California economy beginning in the early 1920s and continues to do so today.”
The hall was established to recognize and pay tribute to the aviation visionaries of California that have made significant contributions to the advancement and development of the aviation and aerospace fields. A special section of the new museum will be dedicated to display Hall of Fame inductees along with images, artifacts and ephemera of those individuals.
The museum has a lease agreement with City Hall for a property at 3100 Airport Ave. Those interested in the museum or would like to make a contribution can go to www.museumofflying.com.
