The Ocean Park Association and the Buy Local Santa Monica Committee announced Sunday the grand marshals for the sixth annual Santa Monica Fourth of July Parade.
They are Benjamin Kay, a science teacher at Santa Monica High School; Joe Wise, a science teacher at New Roads High School; Marianna O’Brien, a science teacher at Lincoln Middle School; and Kristin Jurewicz, a science teacher at John Adams Middle School.
“The science teachers deserve to take a bow for the tremendous work they have done for the children of our community” said Lori Nafshun, one of the Fourth of July Parade founders.
As this year’s parade theme emphasizes science and technology, Nafshun said it’s important to recognize school teachers who have the opportunity and ability to teach critical thinking.
“We owe the science teachers our gratitude for helping to keep the passion for learning alive,” she said.
The parade starts at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday in front of the Civic Center and will proceed down Main Street.
