Saturday was a bad day to be driving a truck in Santa Monica after a pair of incidents resulted in one driver’s arrest and a serious injury to another.
In the first case, SMPD arrested a drunk driver who fled the scene after striking a parked car on Montana Ave. with his pickup truck. Several residents followed the driver while calling the police with the eventual arrest captured on cell phone video.
According to SMPD Lieutenant Candice Cobarrubias, the suspect would not comply with commands given by the arresting officer so additional units were called to the scene. No one was injured and Mauricio Rivas, 31, was arrested for DUI without incident.
In a second incident, a motorcycle collided with a truck near the intersection of Chelsea and Wilshire. The motorcycle rider was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries after his arms were run-over by another vehicle.
