While the late Mayor Ken Genser would have most likely preferred it if you walked or rode the bus (he was a major proponent of alternative transit), City Hall is offering free parking for the memorial service paying tribute to Santa Monica’s longest-serving elected official.
The memorial for Genser, who passed away Saturday at the age of 59, will be held Sunday, Jan. 24, at 1:30 p.m. at Santa Monica High School’s Barnum Hall, 601 Pico Blvd. A reception will follow in the East Wing of the Civic Auditorium, according to the City Manager’s Office.
Free parking is available at the Civic Center Parking Structure located at 333 Civic Center Dr. and at the Santa Monica Civic Parking Lot. The entrance for both parking locations is at Civic Center Drive and Fourth Street. Parking for people attending the memorial service who have a disabled parking placard or license plate can access parking on the Samohi campus by entering Olympic Boulevard from Fourth Street and turning right into the parking lot. Accessible parking is also available in the Civic Center Parking Structure and the Civic Auditorium lot.
