Three children and one adult were arrested Thursday after robbing a jewelry store on Montana Avenue.
One of them entered Heist Jewelry around 2:30 p.m. and smashed a display case with a hammer, said Santa Monica Police Department Lt. Candice Cobarrubias. The owner immediately intervened and was able to push the suspect outside of the store. A second suspect carrying a sledgehammer approached the owner and struck him with it, causing minor injuries. The suspects fled the area in an awaiting car.
Witnesses called 911 to provide information on the car and the direction it left in, Cobarrubias said. SMPD officers immediately located the car in the 1100 block of Wilshire Blvd. and took three suspects into custody.
Officers located a fourth suspect who did not make it in time to the getaway car near Euclid Street and Idaho Avenue and took him into custody.
Out of the four suspects, three are juveniles. The adult was booked for conspiracy to commit a crime, assault with a deadly weapon and robbery. The juveniles were booked with conspiracy to commit a crime, robbery and assault.
