THIRD STREET PROMENADE
As of 2 p.m. today Yankee Doodles restaurant and pool parlor on the Third Street Promenade remained closed for further inspection of a kitchen fire, said Thomas Hiller, fire battalion chief.
A fire erupted in the restaurant's kitchen at 5:03 a.m. where firefighters extinguished the main part of the fire in about 15 minutes, said Battalion Chief Carl Bjerke.
The fire was fully extinguished shortly after 7 a.m. because flames spread into the ducting system, fueled in part by grease.
No injuries were reported. Fire units from the Los Angeles Fire Department and the Culver City Fire department were called in to help.
Hiller said that by 2 p.m. the building was still being inspected as to whether patrons could be allowed inside and the Fire Prevention Division continued their investigation as to the cause of the blaze.
