Santa Monica’s firefighters will begin making their own training videos thanks to a roughly $5,000 donation from Kessler, a division of HUB International, and the Fireman’s Fund Insurance Co.
The grant will help cover the cost of purchasing a new video camera, tripod, wireless microphones, a computer and video editing software, city officials said.
“Firefighters put themselves in danger to protect the city every day,” said Santa Monica Fire Deputy Chief Bruce Davis. “It’s critical they have the proper training to do their jobs safely. The result is a community whose residents and property are better protected.”
The grant is part of a nationwide philanthropic program funded by Fireman’s Fund Insurance Co. The program is designed to provide needed equipment, training and educational tools to local fire departments and burn prevention organizations.
Since 2004, Fireman’s Fund has issued grants to more than 1,800 different organizations totaling more than $29 million, city officials said. Independent insurance agencies and brokers that sell Fireman’s Fund products, like HUB International, are able to direct these grants to support the fire service.
Through this program, HUB International has directed over $600,000 in grants to fire departments nationwide. This is Kessler’s second grant to the Santa Monica Fire Department.
