Friday, March 23, at 9:19 a.m.,
Santa Monica police officers responded to the 2100 block of 21st Street regarding a suspicious vehicle parked on the street with a man inside who appeared to be sleeping in the driver’s seat. When officers arrived, they found the red Mercury convertible parked in front of a pre-school on 21st Street. Officers looked into the car and said they saw a clear plastic baggie containing what they believed to be meth and a glass pipe sitting on the passenger’s seat. Officers removed the man in the car and recovered the meth, the pipe and a loaded .38 caliber handgun that was sitting in the center console, police said. The suspect was determined to be a convicted felon with prior convictions for narcotics possession and burglary. He was arrested and booked for possession of a firearm near a school, being a felon in possession of a firearm, carrying a loaded firearm in a public place, possession of a controlled substance, and several other drug charges. The suspect was identified as Shawn Dale Scott, 45, of Venice, Calif. His bail was set at $50,000.
Sunday, March 25, at 7:02 p.m.,
Officers responded to the 200 block of Broadway — Nordstrom — regarding a suspect in custody who allegedly tried to purchase more than $3,000 worth of merchandise using a fake California ID and Social Security card that was issued to another person. When the transaction was completed, security took the suspect into custody and waited for officers to arrive. Police placed the man under arrest for burglary, forging an official seal, providing a false check, possession of a driver’s license or ID to commit forgery, unlawful use of a bank account and obtaining credit with another person’s ID. He was identified as Gregory Burgess, 27, of Los Angeles. His bail was set at $20,000.
Saturday, March 24, at 11:33 p.m.,
Officers on routine patrol on the 2800 block of Exposition Boulevard said they saw a man they knew was on probation for robbery and narcotics sales. Officers approached and searched him. They said they recovered some methamphetamine. The man was placed under arrest for possession of a controlled substance and a probation violation. He was identified as Joseph Ramirez, 28, a transient. No bail was set.
Friday, March 23, at 7:29 p.m.,
Officers were on routine patrol on the 1200 block of Alley 6 when they saw someone standing in a doorway of a business that has been the focus of previous complaints. Officers approached the man, who allegedly tossed his lit cigarette down on the ground. Officers told him that what he did was littering. The man ignored the officers, who then asked for his identification. The man said he didn’t have an ID. He was placed under arrest for littering. When officers searched him they said they found several glass pipes commonly used to smoke rock cocaine. The suspect was eventually booked for possession of drug paraphernalia, littering and a probation violation. He was identified as Gene Johnson, 31, a transient. His bail was set at $10,000.
Thursday, March 22, at 8:49 p.m.,
Officers were on routine patrol in the area of 14th Street and Michigan Avenue when they saw a man they knew to be on probation standing on the corner. Officers detained him and searched him. They said they recovered a glass pipe commonly used to smoke meth. The man was placed under arrest for possession of drug paraphernalia and for violating his probation. He was identified as Jeremiah Locke, 31, of Los Angeles. His bail was set at $10,000.
Wednesday, March 21, at 4:11 p.m.,
Officers responded to Nordstrom again regarding another person who allegedly tried to steal merchandise. When officers arrived they made contact with store security who said that the suspect entered the store, picked some clothes from the displays and went to a dressing room. When he left, all the clothing was accounted for except a Burberry scarf. The suspect left the store and was immediately confronted by security. At that time the suspect started to run. He didn’t get far. Security detained him until police arrived. Officers placed the suspect under arrest for burglary, possession of burglary tools, a probation violation and petty theft with a prior. He was identified as Adam Garcia, 20, a transient. No bail was set. The scarf was recovered.
Tuesday, March 20, at 11:15 p.m.,
Officers responded to the 2800 block of Lincoln Boulevard regarding a report of someone sleeping in a driveway with what appeared to be fresh vomit around him. When officers arrived, they made contact with the man, who upon standing up grabbed a shopping cart and allegedly rammed it into the leg of one of the officers. Officers sprayed the suspect with pepper spray, causing him to fall to the ground. He was placed under arrest and booked for battery on a police officer and misappropriation of lost or stolen property. He was identified as Dennis Albert, 70, a transient. His bail was set at $20,000. The officer was not injured in the incident.
Tuesday, March 20, at 12:53 a.m.,
Officers responded to the 1300 block of the Third Street Promenade — Barney’s Beanery — regarding a report of someone refusing to pay their bill. When officers arrived, they spoke with the manager of the bar/restaurant who said the suspect drank two beers and tried to pay with a credit card that had insufficient funds. The manager added that the suspect was abusive toward employees and disruptive. He wanted the guy arrested, so cops did just that. The suspect was handcuffed and searched. Officers said they found some pot on him. He was ultimately booked for defrauding an innkeeper and possession of less than an ounce of marijuana. He was identified as John Graham, 47, of Los Angeles. His bail was set at $500.
