On February 23 at approximately 9:30 p.m.
SMPD officers responded to El Torito located at 3360 Ocean Park Blvd for an assault. Reportedly, the suspect, Kevin Kamson, became irate when a restaurant patron used the rented electronic scooter belonging to Kamson. Although the patron returned the scooter and apologized for the confusion, Kamson began spitting and yelling at the patron and ultimately punched the victim in the face. Kamson then pulled out a knife and made stabbing motions towards the victim and their family. While the victim took shelter behind her vehicle and called 9-1-1, Kamson damaged her vehicle. Witnesses pointed out the suspect as he fled on the scooter through the parking lot. Officers arrested Kamson for Assault with a Deadly Weapon and Vandalism.
On February 24 at 8:20 p.m.
Officers arrested Latifah Allah for loitering in a City parking structure as well as for lighting newspapers on fire in a stairwell. The reporting party stated that upon returning to his vehicle parked in the Main Street Library Parking Structure, he observed a fire with flames over a foot high in the stairwell. He was able to provide a description of the person sitting next to the open flames and stated that he extinguished the fire by stomping on it. Based on the description provided and the suspect, Allah, being in possession of burnt newspapers and a lighter, officers transported her to the Santa Monica Jail and booked her for arson. She was ultimately issued a citation with a court date of April 8.
