Crime Watch

On July 11 shortly after midnight
SMPD officers were dispatched to a call of a burglary in progress. The information from the call stated that there was motion detected and video evidence of someone walking around inside a business located near the 1600 block of 11th Street. After arrival and clearing the building to ensure the subject of the call was no longer at the premises, officers located ransacked cabinets and doors that had been forced open. A witness at the location confronted the subject in the building and was unharmed and able to provide officers with a description of the individual. Devin Whiteside, a 31 year old male from Gardena, was arrested. Officers are seeking felony burglary charges. Whiteside remains in custody at the time of this report and is scheduled to return to court on July 16.
